Longwood Group Home is a spacious, wheelchair accessible home offering compassionate, person-centered, round the clock care. Located next door to Boonsboro Shopping Center in Lynchburg, Longwood offers 24-hour awake staffing, wheelchair accessible vans, and walk-in showers. (We cannot accommodate mechanical lifts.) Staff in this home are skilled in supporting individuals with mobility and health challenges including catheter management, specialized diets, and complex medication regimens.

Longwood Group Home is a spacious house just off Boonsboro Road (501 business), a main thoroughfare in Lynchburg city. The home offers main level living, with additional basement space for storage and offices.  Vaulted ceilings and wide transitions between common areas give the home a welcoming feel, with lots of natural light.  Spacious common areas and amenities include a sunroom, piano, sectional sofa for leisure time and socializing, plenty of floor space for free movement and games, and a deck with a ramp. Many residents set up activity areas in the sunroom based on their hobbies and interests. Four bedrooms are located in sets of two, on opposite ends of the home, with jack-and-jill style bathrooms located between each set. An additional bathroom for staff and guests is also available. Longwood is home to four residents maximum, each of whom has a private bedroom.

Longwood Group Home encourages each person to spend their time in meaningful ways, as they choose. Individuals might attend day support or community engagement programs. Others may prefer activities on a more spontaneous schedule, such as eating out at favorite restaurants, recycling, utilizing the library, spending time at local parks and bodies of water, shopping, getting their hair done, attending parties or dances, and scenic rides. Home activities include bowling, arts and crafts, music, holiday decorating, watching preferred television shows and movies, and enjoying meals together.

Longwood is staffed around the clock, typically with three staff on duty during daytime hours and two staff overnight. Staffing patterns vary based on individual needs, such as medical appointments or special events.

Longwood Group Home staff take pride in meeting each person where they are, on a day-to-day basis and throughout the entire length of an individual’s residency at Longwood. They are understanding, patient, and compassionate when helping someone through medical or other challenges, with a focus on empathy, environmental adjustment, consistent responses, and addressing underlying factors.  Longwood staff promote fun, individuality, and relationship development to help residents achieve personal growth and a high quality of life.
