Jose and Monika Soto both have a mental health background with years of experience in the field. They were foster parents for six years, therapeutic foster parents for four years, and sponsored residential providers for the last four years. They both have experience as personal care attendants and companions for the elderly. Jose has over two decades of experience in the United States Postal Service with 10 years as Postmaster. He also serves as an elder in their local church. Over the last two decades, Monika has worked as a Residential Counselor and Case Manager in a group home of children, Residential Instructor at Colonial Behavior Health, Senior Service Facilitator for Consumer Directed Care, and operated a Home Daycare business. She holds a master’s degree in Non-Profit Management from Regent University School of Law.
Their home is shared with their three children: Miguel (21), Shekinah (18), and Victory (15). When asked why they want to provide care to an individual in need, the Sotos stated, “We are a loving and compassionate family. We are strong advocates for those who may not be able to voice their preferences as easily as others. We look forward to welcoming someone into our home and helping them reach their goals, dreams, and desires. With the right accommodations, anything is possible!”
The Sotos’s are an active family and involved in many activities within their community. They enjoy going on vacations, sporting events, cooking, and spending time together as a family wherever it may be. With extended family close by, they often get together for holidays, to celebrate birthdays, and to enjoy family time. They enjoy a variety of foods from authentic Puerto Rican dishes to classic Southern dishes. The Soto’s regularly attend church and often volunteer for outreach events. Some of their extra-curricular activities include college softball and competitive gymnastics. Jose is a New York Yankees fan and enjoys baseball and softball on every level. Monika enjoys writing, cooking, and spending time with family.
Their home in Williamsburg, Virginia is a three-level townhome located on a cul-de-sac in a great and welcoming community. It is a four bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom home. The kitchen is open with a separate dining area and the family room contains a half bathroom. The first floor of the home features a laundry room as well as a bedroom with a walk-in closet and ensuite bathroom. A deck and patio are located at their home for enjoyment and the community contains a clubhouse and pool.
