Belynda and Scott Riley have been Providers for over a decade. They are now expanding to support a third individual. One of the individuals they currently support has been with them for over thirteen years, while the other has been part of their household for four years. Scott recently retired from a full-time job with the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries. He has also previously served as a TOVA instructor with Wall Residences. Belynda was in the medical field for over 24 years prior to becoming a provider. Scott and Belynda have family living close by who are certified as back up workers, as well as several people in the community who provide back-up support. Scott currently volunteers with Habitat in Amherst and they both have supported other organizations on a volunteer basis, including Meals on Wheels, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, and the American Cancer Society.
They provide a family environment which includes the individual in family events if they choose to participate. Belynda and Scott are resourceful in providing community engagement through involvement with WRAP (Wall Residences Activity Program), day support, family outings, birthdays, vacations, road trips, and more. The couple enjoy frequent road trips, going out to eat, and exploring places they’ve never been with the two women they support. The household also includes Belynda and Scott share the home with a very affectionate miniature pug named Chloe who loves people.
This is a 4 bedroom, 3 bath white brick ranch home situated on four rural wooded acres. There is a living room, eat in kitchen, bonus room, dining room, and three bedrooms with two full baths on the main level. The lower level includes a family room, bedroom, full bath, laundry room, and storage. The individual who chooses this home will have their own bedroom with private bathroom. Outdoor living spaces include a large back deck with a pool and hot tub, large yard, and front porch. Family gatherings are common, especially during the summer. While the home is in a rural setting, it is close to shopping, restaurants, church, and other amenities.
Belynda and Scott note, “After providing services for thirteen years it is a relationship that is twofold. We have benefited from the joy they (the supported individuals) bring to our home. It really is simple: love and acceptance are truly how we all wish to be treated. We have been blessed by the individuals we support and look forward to being able to provide the same level of care for the next person.”
