Dara Short has extensive experience in the mental health field as a DSP, Therapeutic Day Treatment Counseling, and as a Support Coordinator and Case Manager for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in human services: Marriage and Family Counseling, and is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
She has experience supporting an individual with significant medical needs and is licensed for two with two current available vacancies. She enjoys spending time with her family attending church functions, school and sporting events, and going on vacations with individuals in her service. Dara enjoys decorating her home to be welcoming and comfortable for all who visit or stay there.
Her home is shared with three of her four children, who are all in school. Dara’s family has two loving dogs, a three-year-old Chihuahua mix named Ginger and a six-month-old Boston Terrier named Bella. Dara Short embodies a compassionate, person-centered approach to caring for individuals with a wide range of behavioral, medical, and intellectual/developmental needs. She strongly believes in community integration, a loving family atmosphere, and provides a warm and compassionate environment. Dara’s children and parents are actively involved in the individual’s lives and welcome them with open arms.
Dara’s home in Willis, Virginia is a single-family, two-story wood structure. There are three bedrooms on the second floor and two bedrooms on the main level. The main level bedrooms are designated to individuals receiving support and are fully accessible. The remainder of the main floor includes a living room, dining room, spacious kitchen, mudroom, large laundry room, and a fully accessible spacious bathroom with a bathtub and shower unit.
The home has a wheelchair-accessible ramp and a large wrap-around deck with two entrances from the deck. There is a total of four entrances/exits on the main level of the home. The home sits on several acres in a country setting with lots of trees, ample yard space, and privacy while still being within minutes of a small-town area.
