Dorsey Drawhorn and Deloris Crite have 20 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They have expertise supporting individuals with complex medical needs such as feeding tubes, ostomy care, mobility needs, and individuals in hospice care. Their back-up staff includes a registered nurse for additional medical support. Dorsey and Deloris are ready to support ambulatory or non-ambulatory females or males, those who need total care, and those with limited vision. They particularly are interested in working with older adults.
Dorsey and Deloris’ home sits on six acres of land in a peaceful, low population area of Amelia County, Virginia. The home is approximately 30 miles west of Richmond and 30 miles east of Farmville, Virginia, making both destinations an easy day trip. The providers describe the setting as “soothing to the spirit.” Local opportunities include attending church services of the individual’s choice, participating in or cheering on local sports, hometown parades, visits to local animal farms, and fishing and outdoor activities at nearby ponds and campgrounds. Restaurants and stores are within a fifteen minute vicinity.
Deloris and Dorsey’s four bedroom, five bathroom home has a welcoming wraparound front porch and a back deck complete with a wheelchair accessible ramp. The main level of the home includes the living room, dining room, kitchen, and laundry room. The available bedroom is also on the main level and includes an attached bathroom. The home has a full, finished basement equipped with an additional full kitchen, living room, bedroom, full bathroom, and laundry room. This level can also be accessed from the patio and paved driveway. The doorways in the home are widened to ensure accessibility. The providers have a wheelchair accessible van as well.
While the setting is quiet and peaceful, the providers nurture relationships that foster community involvement. They also encourage each individual to focus on individual comforts and talents. A special emphasis is placed on physical, social, emotional, and spiritual development. The providers are committed to consistently providing positive role models, dedicated staff, appropriate programming, and fostering a loving home environment.
