Apple Ridge Group Home is a licensed group home with four beds and 24/7 awake staff. The group home provider Dylan Mays is a third-generation provider. Dylan has a wide range of experience in the field of working with those who have intellectual disabilities. Dylan’s experience began with being raised within two homes where services were provided in a sponsored residential and group home setting. Dylan has also worked at Southwest Virginia Training Center for five years as a Direct Support Professional.
Dylan’s wife and his two young daughters live in a separate home and visit Apple Ridge daily. The girls’ love spending time with all the individual’s that live in the home and they love to spend time with the girls’ also. Dylan prides his service on being well-organized, family oriented, and having a home like environment that promotes person-centered care.
Apple Ridge is located in Woodlawn, Virginia. It is conveniently located between Galax and Hillsville. The home is accessible to Twin County Regional Hospital, physician offices, dining, and shopping. The home sits on a ridge in a private setting with a wonderful view. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. There is a spacious front yard, beautiful front porch, and large back deck for gatherings. The home is very open, inviting, and beautifully arranged.
Apple Ridge offers an array of services to meet a wide variety of interests. Those that currently live in the home enjoy many activities including shopping, bowling, playing putt-putt, eating out, spending time outdoors, attending social events such as dances & parades, and much more. The goal is to always be inventive, creative, and accommodating. This means that Dylan and his staff always provide individualized services to meet the desires of each person living at the home.
Currently most Apple Ridge staff are comprised of family members who have been employed at the home since it was licensed. Everyone that works at Apple Ridge is interactive and involved in supporting what is important to and for those that live in the home. The staff and provider have developed special bonds with those who currently reside at Apple Ridge and hope to expand those same relationships with another individual as well.
